Role Overview & Responsibilities

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Intermediate/Senior Tax Accountant to join our dedicated team in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager in Melbourne, Australia, you will handle full-scope business accounting services, manage client portfolios, and ensure strict adherence to tax compliance and financial regulations.

  • End-to-End Accounting: Prepare comprehensive financial statements and manage tax compliance workflows for diverse client accounts.
  • Strategic Advisory: Provide clients with practical tax planning and optimization strategies.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Act as a main point of contact for government authorities and regulatory bodies.
  • Mentorship & Leadership: Guide and support junior accounting staff while facilitating efficient internal operations.
  • Systems Management: Utilize modern cloud accounting platforms to analyze data, run reports, and strictly meet SOP deadlines.

Key Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Professional Certifications

  • Tertiary degree or post-graduate qualification in Business, Finance, Commerce, or Management.
  • Currently pursuing, completed, or starting CA, CIMA, or CPA credentials.
  • Xero Certification (Payroll & Advisor) is mandatory (or a commitment to obtain it immediately upon joining).
  • Certifications in MYOB and QuickBooks are highly advantageous.

Work Experience & Technical Skills

  • 2 to 4 years of hands-on accounting experience in a Big4, BPO, or practice setting, preferably handling Australian, UK, or Sri Lankan financial frameworks.
  • 3+ years in a client-facing leadership or advisory capacity.
  • Moderate to strong familiarity with Australian Taxation, Payroll, and Superannuation systems.
  • Proficiency with Xero WorkflowMax, Xero, and CCH.
  • Advanced command of MS 365 and Excel (vBA/Visual Basic experience is preferred).
  • Proven ability to learn and extract data from enterprise management and warehouse systems quickly.
