The Ministry of Health & Mass Media is accepting applications for the 3-Year, full-time English-medium Student Nursing Training Course for 2026. This program offers a direct pathway into the government nursing service. Apply online via www.health.gov.lk from May 29, 2026, to June 30, 2026.
Key Requirements
- Eligibility: Unmarried/divorced Sri Lankan citizens, aged 18–28 (as of 29.05.2026), minimum height 4’10” (147.3 cm). Must remain unmarried during training.
- G.C.E. O/L: Passed 6 subjects in maximum two sittings, with Credit passes in Sinhala/Tamil, Math, Science, and English.
- G.C.E. A/L: Passed 3 subjects in a single sitting (2021, 2022, 2023, or 2024) in Bio Science or Physical Science.
- Selection: Based on district population quotas and highest Z-scores. Applicants must have 3 years of consecutive residency in their district prior to June 30, 2026 (verified by a Grama Niladhari certificate).
Ineligibility
Students currently registered or enrolled in full-time internal courses at State Universities, University Colleges (UGC), or National Colleges of Education (Vidya Peeta) are ineligible. Canceling registration after May 29, 2026, will not restore eligibility.
Step-by-Step Application Process
- Pay Fee: Deposit Rs. 1,000/- at any Bank of Ceylon branch to Account No. 7041318 (Thaprobane Branch), payable to “The Secretary of the Ministry of Health & Mass Media., Collection of Examination fee”. CDMs and internet banking are banned. Keep the original receipt.
- Apply Online: Submit one English-medium form via www.health.gov.lk. Ensure you receive a confirmation email.
- Attest: Print the submitted application and have your signature attested by an authorized official (e.g., JP, Attorney-at-Law, or designated civil servant).
Mandatory Service Bond
Selected candidates must sign a legal bond with two guarantors, committing to complete the training and serve in the public nursing sector for at least ten (10) years. Early withdrawal or breach of contract will trigger financial recovery of all stipends and penalties.
